Sparkling Display of Innovations at the Essen Motor Show:
Manufacturers, Tuners and Motorsport Sector Will Present

World and German Premieres
It will be possible to see a sparkling display of innovations at the 45th Essen Motor Show: There will be world premieres and German premieres not only from the automobile manufacturers and the tuners but also with regard to the vehicles designed for motorsport. A total of 17 world premieres have been announced up to one week before the start of the Essen Motor Show, mainly from the tuning and motorsport sectors. These will be supplemented by several German premieres.

Automobile Manufacturers
At BMW, attention will focus on the world premiere of the BMW M Performance accessories for the new BMW 3-series touring car (available as from April 2013). The exhibits on display will also include: the new BMW 125i, the BMW 535i saloon and a BMW M3 coupé – all of them equipped with the maximum scope of BMW M Performance products.
Ford will have several innovations on display – e.g. the latest sporty advertising sign, the 250 bhp Focus ST as a five-door vehicle in series trim and in two tuning variants. Other newcomers: the new compact SUV Ford Kuga which will make its market debut at the start of 2013, the new Ford Transit Custom, the freshly modified Ford Fiesta and the recently updated Ford Ranger Wildtrak with a four-door double cabin.

Amongst other exhibits, Mini will show accessory products from John Cooper Works. For example, it will be possible to see a Mini Cooper S which is comprehensively geared to racing-oriented performance in the exterior, in the interior as well as in the drive and chassis areas. A Mini John Cooper Works GP with 218 bhp will provide an appropriate greeting to the fans on the outdoor site.

The exhibits presented by Opel will include a German premiere with the Adam model (small car, available as from the start of 2013). Other innovations will be: Mokka (small SUV) and Zafira Tourer (seven-seater compact van).

At Renault, the spotlight with regard to the series cars will be on the new Clio of the fourth generation. The small car has been available since November. As far as motorsport is concerned, there will be two premieres: firstly, the Renault 1.6 NEC Junior (a one-seater racing car with 140 bhp) and, secondly, the Twingo R1 for rally rookies for a new constructors trophy.

With the Rapid, Skoda will show the new middle-of-the-range car which has been available since October and, at the Czech automobile manufacturer, is located between the Fabia and the Octavia. Moreover, the exhibits will include two studies on the basis of the small Citigo car which came on to the market in 2012.

Subaru, the world’s largest manufacturer of all-wheel-drive cars, will present eight individualised sporty exhibits. For the first time in Germany, it will be possible to see the WRX STI S206 model variant in the “Nürburg Challenge Edition” of which merely 100 vehicles were built and which has only been available in Japan until now.

Toyota Motorsport (TMG) will have two new cars for motorsport on display, i.e. the GT86 CS-V3 (a cost-favourable racing version of the Toyota GT86 which is intended for private drivers and was launched on to the German market in September) and the TMG Yaris R1A (a novice’s car which complies with FIA-R1A regulations and is intended for rally drivers).

Tuners
The tuning sector will show a lot of premieres in 2012 too. However, it will probably be the case this year as well that really all the innovations will only be revealed when the Essen Motor Show has opened. The premieres announced in advance include the following:
Abt Sportsline will show a refined VW Beetle and the AS3 on the basis of the new Audi A3.
AC Schnitzer will come with the new BMW 3-series touring car and the Raptor on a Mini basis.
Brabus will introduce its programme for the new A Class and the CLS Shooting Brake.
Elia will have no fewer than three world innovations – with the Renault Twizy (a tuned electric car), the new Clio IV and the Dacia Dokker.
Heico will show its programme for the new Volvo V40.
SpeedArt will present its refined new Porsche Boxster.
TechArt will also show a refined Porsche Boxster.
Wimmer will present a Porsche 911 GT2 RS with more than 1,000 bhp.
Wolf will show a tuned Ford Focus ST.
As always, it will also be possible to see the newest trends as far as exhausts, chassis or wheel rims are concerned.

15 Years of H Registration Plates for Historic Vehicles
Preserving Technical Cultural Assets
The number of historic vehicles on German roads is rising even further. 231,064 cars with H registration plates had been registered by December 31, 2011 – a rise of nearly 11 percent compared with the previous year. In total, there are around 259,000 vehicles with H registration plates in Germany, including not only cars but also motorcycles, commercial vehicles, tractors and miscellaneous vehicles. H registration plates are intended for oldtimer vehicles which are at least 30 years’ old. Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA – “Association of the Automobile Industry”) regular commissions Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (“Federal Motor Vehicle Office”) to elaborate a detailed evaluation of the vehicles with H registration plates.

The regulation concerning H registration plates came into force in Germany 15 years ago, in July 1997. This possibility of registering and marking motor vehicles as historic vehicles was intended to promote the care of the cultural assets in the form of motor vehicle technology. In addition to the minimum age of 30 years, the vehicles must be technically flawless and in the original condition. Matthias Wissmann, VDA President: “The H registration plate is the recognition characteristic of a genuine oldtimer. Since its introduction, it has made a great contribution to ensuring that ever more people are endeavouring to preserve historic vehicles. That is also proven by the constant rise in the number of licensed oldtimers in recent years. VDA is advocating the viewpoint that oldtimers with H registration plates should continue to be protected as technical cultural assets so that they will be able to drive on our roads without any problems in the future too.”

In the rankings of the models with H registration plates, the VW Beetle is still unchallenged in first place with 26,857 vehicles. Compared with the preceding year, the number of VW Beetles with H registration plates rose by all of five percent. It is followed by three Mercedes-Benz cars: The “SL” in the 107 series (7,103 vehicles) has climbed into second position with an increase of no less than 18 percent. Third place is now occuped by the “Dash Eight” (6,821 units), followed by the Mercedes-Benz “W123″ which also exhibited strong growth (5,921; plus 44 percent). The “W123″ was built from 1975 to 1986. Therefore, a lot of vehicles in this model series are currently reaching the oldtimer age of at least 30 years. The Porsche 911/912 has remained in fifth position: The number of licensed 911s and 912s with H registration plates rose by almost 19 percent to 5,500 vehicles. The quickest climber in the top ten of the oldtimers with H registration plates is the VW Bus (including the VW Transporter). The number of “Bullis” with H registration plates soared by nearly 54 percent to 3,593 units.

In spite of the rise by an average of nine percent in the last ten years, vehicles with H registration plates are still a very small minority on German roads. Their proportion of the total stock of cars is just 0.5 percent. Around 59 percent of all the licensed cars which are older than 30 years possess H registration plates. Particular regulations for exceptions, e.g. the exemption from the prohibition on driving in environmental zones, only apply to these vehicles.

30-Oct-2012
Essen Motor Show 2012 on December 1 – 9, 2012

The Spectrum Will Be Complete: From Tuning Gems and
Sporty Classic Cars Via Speedbikes Right up to Formula 1 Racers

On December 1 – 9, the Essen Motor Show will once again pick up speed. And will set off on an exciting final sprint right on time for the end of the motorsport season. Well then? Step on the accelerator and off you go! The 45th Essen Motor Show will put the spotlight on everything that automobile enthusiasts love. Together with the more than 500 exhibitors and a lot of partners, Messe Essen has tied up a breathtaking horsepower package.
In this respect, the concept of the fair will be divided into four sectors, including: sporty series automobiles, tuning, motorsport, classic cars and motorbikes. The whole thing will be garnished with live acts and special events. Of course, the eccentric and crazy creations from all over the world will not be missing this year either and will once more prove: The Essen Motor Show has long since possessed a cult status.

Absolute Thrills
And as the Essen Motor Show sets off on a sprint, there will be absolute thrills when the drift elite begin to rev up their engines at high speed on the course in the Motorsport Arena. For the first time, the final of the IDS Gymkhana Drift Cup which has grown into the official European Championship in 2012 will be staged in Essen. Not only associations and motorsport organisers but also racetracks and racing series will introduce themselves at the fair. The DTM will also be involved with its own presentation.

One new feature will be the “Motorsport-Summit”, a congress on the Trade Visitor and Press Day (November 30). The international forum will be staged together with SPONSORs, the leading organiser of congresses in the sports/economic environment. The “Motorsport Summit” will be geared to decision takers in the motorsport sector. Renowned experts, including Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport Director), have promised to take part.

Automobile Manufacturers and Their Innovations
The automobile manufacturers are displaying a growing interest in the fair: BMW, Ford, Mini, Opel, Renault Motorsport, Skoda, Subaru and Toyota Motorsport will be represented. The car refiners have once more announced a large number of world innovations. Messe Essen’s longstanding partner is VDAT (Verband Deutscher Automobil Tuner e.V. – “Association of German Automobile Tuners”) which was founded 25 years ago. It had seven members at that time and has over 130 today. As for years, VDAT has reserved its own exhibition area at the Essen Motor Show.
Legendary models from automobile history will once again be exhibited in the “Classic Cars” section. At the moment, the sector is profiting from a veritable boom; with prices which are exploding. This year, the traditional special show at the Essen Motor Show will put the legendary Porsche 911 and its variations in the light of the headlamps.

Focus on the World Sports Car Championship from 1953 to 1992
The races for the World Sports Car Championship from 1953 to 1992 are amongst the highlights in motorsport history. In these 40 years, famous automobile firms such as Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Ford, Jaguar, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot or Porsche fought for the prestigious title which, at that time, was often enough precisely as coveted as the World Formula 1 Championship. 15 of the successful oldies will be presented at the Essen Motor Show.

Creative and Curious
In other special sectors, it will be possible to see the legendary VW Beetle as the quickest electric dragster in the world or as a one-off with handmade bodywork from the workshop of a Croatian wrought-iron craftsman. It will also be possible to marvel at a Harley-Davidson trike as a saloon with space for a scarcely credible number of eight passengers. Or a Harley-Davidson bike with seven engines and space for ten people who can sit one behind the other. The Finnjet is recommended for anybody for whom that is not yet sufficient: a nine-metre-long car with parts from 40 different models and other “junk” from the scrapyard. However, the highlight of these creations which have somewhat fallen out of the standard could be the Porsche Streamler – a tractor from 1959 which was lovingly restored.

Speedbikes and Hot Rods
The Speedbike Show with countless and unique bikes will be intended, in particular, for the motorbike fans. The Hot Rod section will deal with an anniversary in 2012: The Ford Model B came on to the market 80 years ago. Without this, there would probably not have been hardly any hot rod cars.

Events for Tuning Fans
The HELLA SHOW & SHINE AWARD 2012 and the eBay Motors “tuningXperience” should arouse great interest amongst the tuning fans. The Hella competition will take place for the fifth time already: With the motto of “Show Your Car in the Best Light!”, Germany’s tuning freaks will present their top-class vehicles at the Essen Motor Show. From a starter field of over 120 candidates in a preselection, a jury has once again chosen ten applicants to proceed to the final. The peculiarity: All the participating vehicles comply with the road traffic licensing regulations (StVZO).
The eBay Motors “tuningXperience” will give its premiere. Visitors will be able to marvel at unique tuned vehicles. Around 80 showcars with numerous details and modifications will be on display at Messe Essen. There, visitors will be able to pick up not only the latest tuning trends but also tips and suggestions for the work on their own vehicles.

First-Rate Design
Concept cars, studies and prototypes of the haute couture of automobile construction have belonged to the Essen Motor Show since time immemorial. It was already possible to see studies at the very first Essen Motor Show in 1968. In the meantime, Essen is defending a top position in the world as far as the number and mixture of the exhibits are concerned. This year, the represented manufacturers will include: Citroen, Fornasari, IED, Italdesign, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Rinspeed, Roding, Sbarro and Wiesmann.

The Fair for Automobile Passion Will Expect More Than 340,000 Visitors
Experience Motorsport at Close Quarters – New Motorsport Congress and the World Sports Car Championship Will Be Top Subjects

All automobile enthusiasts have made of note of the dates in their diaries: The 45th Essen Motor Show will go to the starting line on December 1 – 9, 2012 (Preview and Press Day: November 30). It has long since become a cult and will again entice the motorsport fans into the Ruhr region. 340,000 guests will be expected and will give free rein to their automobile passion at Germany’s automobile fair with the highest number of visitors in 2012. Attention will focus on the newest, sportiest, most beautiful, quickest, most eccentric, craziest and oldest vehicle creations. Garnished with live motorsport and thrilling show acts, the fair will once more become the globally unique motodrome.

The range offered by the exhibitors and the attractive special events will again make the pulses of a large number of horsepower fans reach dizzy heights. In this respect, the Essen Motor Show will bring together five emotional subject sectors: Tuning, Motorsport, Sporty Series Automobiles, Classic Cars and Motor Bikes.

Even Now, the Organisers are Already Revealing the First Highlights -
The Manufacturers’ Interest is Rising Even Further
The car manufacturers’ interest in the Essen Motor Show is growing, continuously as already in the previous year: BMW, Ford, Mini, Opel, Renault Motorsport, Skoda, Subaru and Toyota Motorsport are amongst the trailblazers on the part of the industry. They already secured exhibition areas for themselves at an early stage.

Motorsport Congress Will Emphasise Orientation Towards Automobile Sportiness
With the new motorsport congress (the “Motorsport Summit”), the Essen Motor Show will emphasise its orientation towards more sportiness. The international forum will be staged together with “Sponsors”, the leading organiser of congresses in the sports/economic environment. The “Motorsport Summit” will be geared to decision takers in the motorsport sector. Even today, Jens Marquardt, BMW Motorsport Director, has already promised to participate.
The Latest Tuning Trends at the Largest Tuning Show Anywhere in the World.

In Essen, the top international tuning companies will provide proof of their creativity, engineering and handicraft: It will already be possible to see tuned versions of new car models which have only just been launched. The refinement specialists will show the whole spectrum at the moment: from accessories and vehicle components right up to lavishly styled complete vehicles.

With the motto of “Show Your Car in the Best Light”, passionate mechanics will compete for the most coveted tuning award in Germany, the annual Hella Show & Shine Award. Lina van de Mars, a star on the scene, will sit on the jury and will make an expert assessment of the refined one-off vehicles. At the same time, the qualified motor vehicle mechanic with a racing licence is the face of the campaign called “Germany’s Mechanics”. Two vehicles modified according to the wishes of the fans before the fair will be presented in this show. Moreover, selected highlights of the European show and rat cars scenes will be displayed under the title of “tuningXperience 100″.

Motorsport Arena Will Become the Drift Stage
Put Rubber on the Road Until the Tyres Emit Black Smoke
In the Motorsport Arena, curve artists will go on to the track and will show all their ability. They will put rubber on the road until the tyres emit black smoke. Participants: the European drift elite. For the first time, the final of the IDS Gymkhana Drift Cup which became the official European Championship in 2012 will be staged at the fair. Not only associations and motorsport organisers but also racetracks and racing series will introduce themselves at the fair. DTM will be involved once more with its own presentation.

Special Subject: World Sports Car Championship
The World Sports Car Championship which will take place once again in 2012 after a 20-year break will be the occasion for a large special subject. A selection of victorious vehicles from 1953 to 1992 will be presented. In Essen, it will be possible to see chrome-plated racers of the Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes and Porsche makes – to name just a few.

Additional highlights of the Essen Motor Show have already been planned: Design studies will permit a look into the car future. Popular Ford Hot Rods from 1932 will celebrate their 80th anniversary. An exhibition with victorious vehicles in the Wroclaw Rally will impart impressions of the hardest rally for private drivers.
For visitors, it will definitely be worth being quick: Until the end of September, tickets will still be available at a special price in the online shop of the Essen Motor Show.

Special Show About the World Sports Car Championship at the Essen Motor Show

Legendary Motorsport Era Which is Now Reviving
The races for the World Sports Car Championship from 1953 to 1992 are amongst the highlights in motorsport history. In these 40 years, famous automobile firms such as Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Ford, Jaguar, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot or Porsche fought for the prestigious title which, at that time, was often enough precisely as coveted as the World Formula 1 Championship. As a homage to these 40 successful years of motorsport, almost 20 successful racers from that period will be presented at this year’s Essen Motor Show, starting with the Ferrari 375MM from 1953/54 right up to the Peugeot 905 from 1992, the last titleholder until now. In 2012, the World Sports Car Championship is celebrating its resurrection after a break of 20 years. It is clear that it will also be possible to see the successful cars from this season in Essen.

The races for the World Sports Car Championship included the most important sports car races such as the Twelve-Hour Race in Sebring (USA), the Mille Miglia (Italy), the 24-Hour Race in Le Mans (France), the Targa Florio (Italy), the ADAC 1,000 km race on the Nürburgring (Germany), the 24-Hour Race in Daytona (USA) or the Carrera Panamericana (Mexico).

The World Sports Car Championship with its long-distance races (duration between six and 24 hours) was the counterpart to the World Formula 1 Championship whose races covered a maximum of 500 km or subsequently 300 km. It was very popular. Thus, more visitors often came, for example, to the ADAC 1,000 km race on the Nürburgring than to the World Formula 1 Championship race on the same track. No wonder because the races featured absolute stars including the legendary Argentinian Juan Manuel Fangio, the Briton Stirling Moss in the 1950s or, later on, the Belgian Jacky Ickx as well as the Germans Jochen Mass and Hans-Joachim Stuck who became the World Champion in a Porsche in 1985.

The list of the successful sports cars which will be presented in Essen (status: start of October 2012):
Ferrari 375MM (1954)
Mercedes Benz 300SLR (1955)
Jaguar D (1955/57)

Premiere: eBay Motors “tuningXperience” at the Essen Motor Show 2012

Around 80 Showcars Concentrated in an Independent Hall
Large Tuning Show Will Present the Whole Diversity of Styles

Visitors to the Essen Motor Show will be able to marvel at unique tuned vehicles. Around 80 showcars with numerous details and modifications will be on display in Hall 1A at Messe Essen on December 1 – 9, 2012. For the first time, the eBay Motors “tuningXperience” will take place within the framework of the Essen Motor Show. There, visitors will be able to pick up not only the latest tuning trends but also tips and suggestions for the work on their own vehicles.
In Hall 1A, tuning enthusiasts will find a wide variety of automobile tuning in a concentrated form in an independent fair hall. A lot of the exhibited showcars are amongst the best-known vehicles on the national and international tuning scenes and it has already been possible to marvel at them at large events or in trade magazines. No matter whether a discreet “OEM look” or a spectacular “custom style” – in this respect, the eBay Motors “tuningXperience” will present the whole diversity of tuning styles. The spectrum of the exhibited vehicle makes will be gigantic: The exhibits will include not only makes well-known amongst tuners such as Audi, BMW, Opel or VW too but also models from Ford, Mercedes, Peugeot and Seat. This vehicle mix will be enriched by imported vehicles from Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota as well as by selected US vehicles à la Chevrolet or Dodge.

Two other special vehicles will be shown in Hall 1A: Within the framework of the campaign entitled “Germany’s Mechanics”, two series vehicles (a Porsche 944 Turbo Targa and an Audi A8 Quattro) were refined into stylish connoisseurs’ items within twelve weeks. One of these two cars will be auctioned off for a good cause during the Essen Motor Show.

Press Release November 2012
In the slipstream of the DTM winners: BMW M Performance at the Essen Motor Show 2012.
BMW celebrates its triple triumph with a newly designed appearance at the international tuning fair – stand design in race track style – tyre change contest using original DTM equipment – world premiere of the new BMW 3 Series Touring with BMW M Performance accessories.

Munich/Essen. Just a few weeks after the triple triumph at the German Touring Car Masters (DTM), the BMW appearance at the Essen Motor Show 2012 is inspired by the brand’s sensationally successful comeback season. The current BMW M Performance range is presented at the international tuning fair, celebrating the success of BMW in the driver, team and manufacturer rankings. The retrofit products from the program of Original BMW Accessories perfectly exemplify the intensive transfer of technology from motor racing. The range of products from the areas of drive, suspension, aerodynamics and cockpit is currently being extended to other BMW models. At the Essen Motor Show from December 1st – 9th 2012, visitors will be able to see the world premiere of the BMW M Performance accessories for the new BMW 3 Series Touring (available from April 2013). There will also be an attractive program of activities to create DTM atmosphere and motor racing flair at the exhibition stand, which covers a surface area of approximately 480 square metres. For example trade fair visitors will be able to take part in the “Pit Stop Challenge”, demonstrating their tyre-changing skills on a DTM racing car or be able to obtain BMW DTM driver’s original signatures at one of the autograph sessions.

“BMW M Performance accessories create a link between our cars on the race track and the sporty BMW serial production models,” says DTM driver Martin Tomcyzk. As the driver of the BMW M Performance Accessories DTM for the BMW Team RMG, the 2011 DTM champion contributed to the overall victory of BMW in the manufacturer rankings. BMW M Performance products are created specifically for each model and produced in close collaboration with BMW M GmbH. This means that BMW drivers who are racing enthusiasts and especially value high performance are able to profit from longstanding experience and race-winning expertise when they opt for a BMW M Performance product. What is more, the BMW M Performance range is characterised by authentic design and uncompromising premium quality.

The breadth of this program of products offering finest performance at first hand is due to be extended as of spring 2013. The Essen Motor Show 2012 will feature the first display of retrofit products designed for the new BMW 3 Series Touring. For example, the BMW 320d Touring on show will be fitted with a BMW M Performance Power Kit, which increases the peak output of the 2.0 litre diesel engine from 135 kW/184 bhp to 147 kW/200 bhp. In addition, the five-door model has a BMW M Performance suspension with a particularly sporty set-up as well as a BMW M Performance brake system. The 20-inch M Performance light alloy wheels of the Touring model feature a double-spoke design and the bi-colour look in Ferric Grey typical of BMW M Performance with burnished spoke fronts. Meanwhile the interior of the BMW 3 Series Touring also has a touch of racing flair to supplement the model-specific BMW M Performance exterior components. The range here includes a BMW M Performance sports steering wheel with Race Display, BMW M Performance stainless steel pedals, interior strips in Alcantara and carbon and numerous other interior components finished in carbon. In the latter, a new, open-pore type of carbon is used featuring a matt structure which perfectly matches the Alcantara surfaces.

The BMW 320d Touring fitted with BMW M Performance products is literally presented right on the ideal line at the Essen show. For the first time, the exhibition area is designed in the style of a race track with the models on display occupying their positions on a left-right chicane complete with painstakingly recreated curbs. In addition to the new BMW 125i there is also a BMW 120d of the predecessor generation, a BMW 535i Sedan and a BMW M3 Coupé – all featuring the maximum scope of BMW M Performance products.
There will also be a BMW M3 DTM positioned in the “pit lane” of the trade fair stand. This vehicle will be used for the “Pit Stop Challenge” – a competition in which participants have to change tyres as quickly as possibly using original DTM team equipment. The racing workshop character of the exhibition area is further enhanced by numerous exhibitions which show technical details of the BMW M Performance components. There is also an interactive configurator which provides a precise overview of the range of products available for each specific model. Meanwhile the current product program is available at the BMW.

Accessories and Lifestyle Shop at attractive trade fair rates. Visitors to the Essen Motor Show can also obtain a voucher which gives them reductions on accessory products purchased from participating BMW dealerships and service partners.
The BMW appearance at the Essen Motor Show 2012 continues the brand’s involvement in this event as started last year with a wide range of new attractions. Racing-inspired accessories for BMW models turned out to be highly popular among fans of sporty and individual automobiles last year. Once again this year, the Essen Exhibition Centre will be an international meeting point for exhibitors and visitors who share a passion for motor racing. The organisers are expecting some 340,000 visitors to the fair, which will be held for the 45th time.
